Slashpages or a standard for the indie web
I’m fascinated by one of the latest discoveries. I think about it multiple times a day. First came the humans.txt, and now people start to gather /page-names
created on websites. Why? Because it’s human and hand-crafted. Made by love and fun.
Robb Knight started with Shellsharks to reference them. He published slashpages.net to get common grounds and put it in a blog post. At the time of writing, the following pages are referenced:
- /about: a page all about you
- /blogroll: a list of other sites that you read, are a follower of, or recommend
- /changelog or /log: a summary of changes to your website
- /colophon or /architecture: a page that describes how the site is made, with what tools, supporting what technologies
- /contact: a way for people to contact you
- /defaults: a list of the apps you uses for various tasks, usually based on the list from Hemispheric Views 097
- /follow or /subscribe or /feeds: a page listing your RSS/Atom/JSON feeds and other way to subscribe to your posts
- /hello: a single page listing the ways that you prefer to keep in touch
- /ideas: things people want to make, or concepts they are considering
- /interests: a place for website authors to list out things they’re passionate about and expound on what it is about those things that excites them
- /links or /bookmarks: a list of links to sites you want link to, share, or bookmark for future reference. /links is also commonly used for a list of links to the website owners other sites and online accounts
- /nope: a list of things you don’t like or don’t want to do
- /now: a page that tells you what this person is focused on at this point in their life
- /podroll: a list of podcasts that you recommend
- /save: a list of referral links and discount codes for things you recommend
- /sitemap: list of pages on a website. It is often built in XML, but a more human-friendly one can be created.
- /uses: details of the things you use on a daily basis.
Shellsharks added more pages on a mastodon comment
- /architecture (similar to /colophon)
- /carry: an every day carry (EDC) list
- /defaults
- /favorites
- /til
fLaMEd commented about a /slashes
page that repertories every slash page. /pages
or /slashpages
can be relevant names too.
I add /humans.txt
. A page related to /reviews
can be created, or ones for each media /books
, /movies
, etc… We could also add a /travel
for the different places we’ve been to.
Robb Knight has a /projects
page for the things he built, /notes
for small notes. /explore
is a human readable format of a /sitemap.xml
grouped by topic. The /explore
page group the slashpages and every other website resources.
Slashpages offer a lot of fun, building and experimentation. One page, one small project that can be maintained over time.
